FAQ's
When choosing a counselor that is the right fit for you, it is common to have questions. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions.
Do you accept insurance?
I am not paneled with any insurance companies. I may be able to provide services as an out-of-network provider through your insurance. Once a month, per your request, I can provide you with a Superbill that you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I will not be communicating with insurance companies and it will be your responsibility to submit Superbills to your insurance company as well as to correspond with your insurance company.
If you would like to bill for my services as an out-of-network provider, It is important to first check with your insurance company to discuss how much they will reimburse. Please note that different insurance companies have varying guidelines for reimbursing for out-of-network costs. Not all out-of-network sessions are covered, it depends on the session duration, modality, and the scope of your insurance coverage. Please receive clarification from your insurance company regarding guidelines for reimbursement for services from LPC providers in Ohio, as I am an LPC practicing under the clinical supervision of an LPCC-S. It is your responsibility to ensure insurance coverage of telehealth services if you are sending SuperBills to your insurance company for out-of-network services. Full payment is due at the end of each session from your card on file.
Why don't you accept insurance?
I have decided not to join insurance panels, this allows me to provide care as a private pay therapy practice for a number of reasons that directly impact my clients. You have more flexibility of services when you opt out of utilizing insurance. Insurance companies often limit the number of sessions allowed per client. Some insurance companies prescribe a specific approach to counseling (for example, Solution-Focused Brief therapy or short-term counseling, which limits client's treatment to 6-8 sessions). Some types of therapy, such as grief therapy, may not be covered by insurance. You have more flexibility in choosing your own goals, choosing the course and duration of their time in counseling, and in prioritizing the issues you want to work on at their own pace. If your insurance changes, there's no concern of needing to find a new counselor. When you choose to self-pay for therapy, you are able to select the counselor that is the best fit for you without being limited by who is paneled with your insurance.
How do I know if we're a good fit?
Trust your gut when you review my website and when we talk during our 15 minute free consultation. This call is intended to help you get a feel for what it could be like for us to work together. If we start working together but you find that you need a different counselor that can better meet your needs, I will happily advocate for you and provide you with a list of referrals. I wish all my clients the best, whether they choose to continue working with me or someone else better suited for their future inner work.
Where will my sessions take place?
As long as you're in the state of Ohio, your sessions can take place wherever you are safe and feel most comfortable. Your session will be most effective if you're in a safe, quiet space, where you won't be distracted by your environment, and where your privacy will be most protected.
What happens during a Diagnostic Assessment?
For our first session, I will be conducting a diagnostic assessment which means I'll be asking you specific questions that will help me best understand your background, your symptoms, what you want from counseling, and how to help you achieve your goals. I will be assessing your symptoms to provide you with a mental health diagnosis. This diagnosis will bring you greater self-awareness of your symptoms, prognosis, and treatment options. We will collaborate together to form treatment goals that will give direction to an effective treatment plan that will be tailored to addressing your concerns and desired outcomes.
What happens in an individual counseling session?
In an individual counseling session we will collaborate together at the beginning of each session to determine where you would like the session to go. Sometimes we will focus on immediate life stressors and your feelings coming into the session to address and alleviate your symptoms presenting at the time of the session. Other times we will dig deeper and explore beneath the surface of your inner fears, wishes, and past experiences that impact your functioning in day to day life and your learned ways of relating with others. From here we will discover ways to transform your beliefs about yourself, process life experiences, and help you navigate towards a healthier way of relating to yourself and others while equipping you with the coping skills that best help you to manage your symptoms moving forward.
How can I make the most of my therapy experience?
To make the most of your therapy experience, show up as you are and trust that you will be met with unconditional positive regard. You will be fully supported and accepted as you are, where you are. This will help me to best know what you are experiencing and what you are wanting out of each individual session so I can better come alongside of you and help you get what you want and need each time we meet. You can also use these sessions as a safe place to practice to advocate for what you want and need. I can better help you when you embrace vulnerability and share if you need something to change in our work together or if there has been a rupture in the therapeutic relationship that we can repair. One of the helpful aspects of therapy is that clients have a space to practice healthy relationship skills and patterns within the safety of a therapeutic relationship. In these therapeutic interactions, clients can learn and practice relational skills in session and then implement their learned relational skills in their personal lives outside of therapy.
How long will I be in counseling?
In most cases it is impossible to estimate how many sessions you will need, and that will not be determined until your concerns are evaluated and will also vary based on the progress that you make, which depends in part on your efforts with the process. You will be free to discontinue services at any time or the services may otherwise be terminated in accordance with the informed consent form language. What are the benefits of tele-health counseling?
There are numerous benefits of telehealth counseling. Clients have control over where they have their sessions and are able to ensure their own comfort. You can get that fuzzy blanket, a warm cup of tea, and cozy up in the privacy of your own home. Your privacy is further protected as you don't have to worry about awkward interactions in a waiting room or the concerns of running into someone you know as you leave your sessions. Telehealth counseling allows for zero commute time or stressors that can come with travel like unexpected traffic. You can continue to receive support from your counselor when you succumb to illness. If you become ill when scheduled for a session, you have a built in hour where your counselor can help support you in self-care, guided coping skills, and in helping you manage your immediate feelings and stressors. There is flexibility in that you can have your session anywhere in the state of Ohio. This opens up accessibility to working with a counselor who isn't located in your town but who is specialized in your area of concern and who may be a good fit for you.
