Anxiety Counseling
There is no one-size-fits-all treatment for anxiety, which means I will collaborate with you to develop a plan that will address your individual and unique concerns about the anxiety you've been experiencing. Together, we can pinpoint your core areas of anxiety, process your feelings, problem-solve for symptom relief, and empower you to move through life better equipped to show up as your full self in the present moment.
If you're feeling anxious more days than not, feeling restless, keyed up or on edge, easily fatigued, having difficulty concentrating or noticing your mind going blank, feeling irritable, uncomfortable with muscle tension, or having sleep disturbances, you might benefit from anxiety counseling.
While everyone's healing journey is their own, below I have outlined several focuses of anxiety counseling I typically guide my clients through during the counseling process. Remember, healing is not a linear process. The purpose of the outline below is to highlight aspects of the counseling process we can work through together.
Focuses in Anxiety Counseling
Coping Skills
When we start to work together to help you find relief from anxiety, I will help you build your personalized coping skills kit so that you will be better able to reduce the intensity of anxiety when it presents itself in your daily life.
Boundaries
After discovering root issues contributing to anxiety, it's helpful to identify when and how to implement boundaries. Part of this work is learning to tolerate the discomfort of others' reactions to your boundaries.
Feel Your Feelings
I will hold space for you to feel your feelings without fear of judgment. Learning to feel your feelings, rather than avoid or numb them, is one of the most important practices you will develop to foster your mental health.
Vulnerability
You will learn how to show up as your authentic self, take healthy risks, and let yourself be seen in your life. Your thoughts and actions will begin to reflect your sense of worthiness instead of shame.
Self-Awareness
We will identify the root issues contributing to anxiety. You will learn emotional literacy to help you talk about your feelings. You will learn to notice the messages your body and emotions are sending you to increase self-awareness.
Connection
You will learn to allow yourself to be deeply seen and known by the people who are most important in your life. You will learn to cultivate love, connection, and belonging with yourself, family and friends.
Anxiety Counseling
When we work together to help address the difficulty of moving through life under the weight of anxiety, my clients experience a space reserved to exploring their needs each session. Sometimes we focus our session on relieving immediate life stressors impacting day to day functioning. We collaborate and experiment to find the coping skills and strategies that help my clients feel equipped to manage the waves of anxiety that come and go throughout the day.
Other times we dive deeper in sessions and explore past experiences, unconscious beliefs, and fears that may be contributing to the intensity of their experienced anxieties. This helps my clients to build a stronger base of self-awareness that empowers them to notice what is happening in them and around them when anxiety crashes in unexpectedly. My clients experience relief as they are better able to notice what they feel, name what they feel, grow in self-compassion and understanding, and show up for themselves the best ways they can to reduce the frequency and intensity of anxiety's presence in their daily lives.
